Donna Wheeler
Donna Wheeler returned to the Food Shelf Board of Directors this past January
after taking
one-year hiatus. Donna has previously served three consecutive terms on
the Board. Recently, she took a few moments to answer some questions about her
goals, experience, and
passion for the Food Shelf.
What motivated you to return to the Food Shelf Board of Directors?
“When my previous term ended, I intended to replace my work at the Food Shelf
with another agency. But, although there are many great agencies in Owatonna, I
didn’t find one that I was as passionate about as the Food Shelf.”
What experience do you bring the Board of Directors?
“I was an accountant for many years, so I’ve always been involved in managing
the Food Shelf’s financial matters, including serving as treasurer in the past.
Today, I own Curves in Owatonna.”
What do you hope to accomplish as a Board member?
“I want to help the agency meet obstacles and my past experience should be
beneficial. The current economy presents challenges that you have to plan for,
but the Food Shelf has amazing board members, employees, and volunteers who are
capable of meeting those
challenges.”
How has your involvement with the Food Shelf impacted you over the
years?
“I’ve met some great people through the Board and it feels good to be back. I’ve
received aid in the past and when you accept charity, you often feel the need to
give back. I think a lot of people feel the same.”
What suggestions do you have for those people who want to give back?
“Volunteer. Help unload donations, organize a food drive, or donate food items.
Money is always helpful, but giving your time is more important.”
Welcome back Donna!
